Why Do Skin Tags Exist?

We all place a high value on keeping fit, health and beautiful. These three should have a balance of sorts. When this balance is disturbed to a certain extent, problems begin. When our hormones shift for one reason or another, we suddenly start experiencing undesirable changes on our skin, such as  skin tag  and moles.

The medical name for what we casually refer to as skin tags is acrochordon. Cutaneous papilloma is also another name ascribed to it in many articles and publications. If you look closely, you would notice that skin tags are just folds of fat with a stalk. This stalk is referred to as the peduncle. It is very noticeable and distinctive with how soft it is when touched. This is the most telltale indication that it is a skin tag. But they all differ in shape, structure and size from person to person.

It is the natural reaction for most people to express dismay and alarm at the first sign of having a skin tag. But there is really nothing to be terrified about. This is in fact a common symptom in some pregnant women. The changes that will be brought about by changes in one's hormone levels could be in the organs or could be in the surface of their skin. If the changes are visible, then it causes grave concern to you. Unless it causes further trouble or complications, there is no need to consult a doctor. Familiarizing yourself with these changes would be a good way to be fully informed about possibilities.

Similarly, when you ponder over the cause of the formation of skin tags, you will find that the trapping of collagen result in skin tags. Collagen is considered to be an essential part of the dermal layer, which is found underneath the skin. They will be even more trapped within the dermal surface when a bunch of blood vessels gets into a tangle. Hence, the formation of skin tags. Try noting certain infections and diseases and you will be amazed at how much connection they actually have with one another.

When two layers of skin constantly rub against each other, skin tags tend to develop. Even the wearing of tight clothes will have skin layers rubbing together. Friction will then ensue. Skin tags will then appear.

There are also several other risk factors associated with skin tag development. For example, use of excessive steroids can also lead to tag formation in different regions of the body. Skin tags can also develop among people who are suffering from the effects of the human papilloma virus. A medical professional or a doctor will not be required to share his expertise if the skin tags are not giving you any problems at all. You should not worry too much about a skin tag being cancerous if it does not change at all in term of size. Being constant in size means it is not at all cancerous. People with diabetes might also develop skin tags.
